Amazon is reportedly making big moves with its logistics.
Air Transport Services Group (ATSG) said that Amazon has agreed to lease twenty of its planes for 5-7 years.
The announcement is confirmation from rumours late last year that Amazon wants its own cargo planes. That, as a result, will give them a closer control of their fulfillment process – which is currently largely run by companies like UPS. In addition to that, it will (hopefully) help them save cost on shipping and fulfillment.
The leased planes could potentially go into operation on April 1, according to Amazon spokeswoman Kelly Cheeseman.
This deal comes at a time when Amazon offers (in most cases) free shipping for its products, at an incredibly fast delivery time. With Amazon Prime, you can order a product and receive it same day.
Amazon has been testing drone deliveries, but has indication as to when they expect to have them in service.
